Using Collaborative Law in Family Law Cases Collaborative law provides families with effective, respectful ways to resolve conflicts. Collaborative cases can include divorces, legal separations or non-marital couple separations, custody issues, parentage actions, child support issues and other issues which directly impact families and family structures. Attorney, client and allied professional work as a team, meeting in a series of "four-way" or "five-way" meetings to address the needs of the clients and their children. All clients and professionals sign a contract that they will not go to court or threaten to go to court as a means of coercing compliance. Information is shared voluntarily and all clients commit to work together in good faith to resolve the issues. The entire process is confidential, and controlled by the clients, not the court system. Clients and professionals are dedicated to arriving at solutions that meet the specific needs of the clients. |
